The numbers that change your answer

Round numbers are fine. Your answers stay in this browser and are not submitted.

What do you do?

This changes the math more than you would expect. Professional services lose a major deduction at higher income levels, and most calculators ignore that.

How is the business set up?

If you are not certain, it is almost always the first one. An S-corp is something you actively elect, and you would remember doing it.

What is this year looking like?

Best estimate for all of 2026, not just what has come in so far. Round numbers are fine.

Everything your clients pay you, before any expenses come out.

Revenue minus business expenses, before you pay yourself. Paying yourself is not a business expense here.

Not sure what to enter? Estimate it with me

Use one fairly normal month. We will turn it into a yearly estimate, then put the numbers above so you can adjust them.

About how much reaches the business account before expenses?

How do you file?

This sets which tax brackets apply to you.

Already paid some tax? Optional: add W-2 withholding or quarterly payments for a sharper estimate.

Your spouse's salary, or your own if you also hold a job.

The federal income tax line on the pay stub, for the whole year.

The April and June quarterly payments, if you made them.

This is a planning estimate, not tax advice. I am a bookkeeper, not a CPA, so run it past whoever prepares your return before you rely on it. It assumes you take the standard deduction, that you are in Texas with no state income tax, and it leaves out several things that could move the number.

If your books are behind, your profit figure is a guess, which makes this a guess too. When the books are current, the set-aside stops being an estimate and becomes a number you can actually run your business on.
